Why Join Baker Mat Club?
The sport of wrestling teaches kids many of the skills they need to be successful in life. While it is a team sport, the success of each wrestler is directly related to the amount of effort they put into practice and how well they compete. It is also a wonderful opportunity to put some of the excess energy to good use.

Baker Mat Club Philosophy 101
There are four goals we have for all of our wrestlers from the time they enter the program as little guys until the time they finish as an 8th grader. If we can say yes to this question: did we prepare our wrestlers to successfully fulfill these four goals? Then, we have done a good job.
- Get good grades
- Have fun/Work Hard
- Become a Regional Champion/State Champion
- Wrestle in middle school, high school, & college
Overview of Baker Mat Club Philosophy: At the club level we want to focus on making practices fun. At the Advanced Mat Club/Middle School/High School level we can switch #'s 2 and 3, while still maintaining a fun atmosphere.
1. Get good grades:
Our success is not only measured by how we do on the mat, but in the real world long after wrestling. We have to commit ourselves to getting good grades. School for many is easy, it's boring, some hate school, it doesn't challenge me….make no excuses! School is priority and our kids need to learn this now, so that we don't have issues later on when eligibility comes into play. Getting good grades will open many opportunities after school is over. Going to college or some sort of career training will ensure them a better job down the road.
2. Have Fun/Work Hard:
Coaches and wrestlers often get focused on "working hard." This is definitely a necessity in life, but at the same time we need to enjoy wrestling. We want to pass our love for wrestling on to each of our wrestlers, because it has changed our lives in so many ways!
3. Become a Regional Champion/State Champion:
Attaining this on the mat will not happen by a sudden act of nature. Many of us want to be a Champion but are not willing to make the sacrifices needed in order to reach that goal. Champions never quit! If you want to be a champ then you will have to work for it. All of you are capable of doing that. We believe in all of you! Be prepared to be pushed to the limit. Do your best everyday!
4. Wrestle in middle school, high school, and college:
By participating in Baker Mat Club, you are building the skills to be able to compete successfully at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Mat Club wrestling is only the beginning, you are training for your future success at these higher levels.
